The
San Antonio Chapter has an active scholarship program designed to
encourage students interested in pursuing careers in Structural
Engineering.
San Antonio Chapter SEAoT Scholarship Program
Committee Policies and Procedures
Article I - Committee Object
Section I -
To provide for, through the use of this chapter's assets, and
the income there from, scholarships to students pursuing an education
in structural engineering, and to further provide for assistance
to educational, literary, scientific and charitable endeavors or
conveyance to any corporation, trust, fund, or foundation.
Section 2 -
To receive by gift, bequest, devise, or in any other manner, money
assistance and any other form of contribution (whether real, personal
or mixed property, from any persons, firm or corporation) to be
used in the furtherance of the objects and purposes of this corporation.
Article II- Board of Directors
Section 1 -
The business and affairs of the committee appointed by the
president shall be managed and controlled by the Chapter Board.
Article III- Meetings
Section 1 Committee meetings shall be held before
and after the Bexar
Chapter TSPE Professional Engineers Scholarship Fund, Inc. meets
to
interview students.
Section 2 Additional meetings as judged necessary
by the committee
or the Board will be held upon notification of the Board at least
two
days prior to the meeting.
Article IV- Scholarship Awards
Section 1 High School - National
Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship program applicants
will be invited to submit an application for scholarship aid from
this fund.
High School Scholarship
award will be based on:
- Aptitude and interest in following the structural
engineering profession;
- Financial need;
- Academic proficiency as exhibited by four years
high school record
- Involvement in extra-curricular activities
- Recommendation of science and/or math teacher
of student.
The recommendation of the Committee will be solicited
for presentation to the Board for the selection of the recipients.
Section 2 Undergraduate - In any
year that a scholarship is awarded, a minimum of one scholarship
per year may be awarded to an undergraduate student enrolled at
a college or university.
Undergraduate scholarship award will be based on:
- Aptitude and interest in following the structural
engineering profession;
- Financial need;
- Academic proficiency as exhibited by four years
high school record
- Involvement in extra-curricular activities
- Be enrolled in an engineering program accredited
by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
- Have completed a minimum of 45 credit hours in
that program.
- Be nominated by the Dean of Engineering at that
college or university.
- Have at least a 2.5 grade point average (as complied
on a 4.0 scale).
- Plan to continue their education at that college
or university.
Section 3 - Sophomore scholarships
will not be renewable unless the Board considers funds are available
in excess of that required for Section 1 and 2 above. These scholarships
may only be awarded to Section 1 scholarship recipients.
Section 4 Fund - No more than 40%
of the fund would be expended during one calendar year. Each award
will be at least $1,000.
